How to Make Iced Herbal Tea

Nothing beats a homemade, refreshing ice cold tea, but not the store bought kind, full with high amounts of sugar and preservatives. There is a healthy alternative and it’s easier than you might think! Whether you decide to use a loose herbal tea or sachets, be sure to choose a high quality herbal tea. So, how can you make your own iced herbal tea fast? Check our 4 step ‘ice chill’ method guide below.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • Your favourite tea (sachet or loose tea)

  • A jug and fine mesh strainer, french press, or infuser tea pot

  • Fresh, filtered water

  • Ice

  • Sugar (optional)

  • Lemon, berries or mint leaves for garnish (optional)

FAST & EASY 5 STEP HERBAL TEA ‘ICE CHILL’ METHOD

1. Infuse one heaped tablespoon of the loose tea herbs or 5 herbal tea sachets into 500ml of boiled water 100°C (212°F) for 8 minutes. (You can double the amount of loose tea, like I did in the video, if you like it extra strong, as the ice will dilute it a bit.)

2. Remove the tea sachets or strain the loose herbal tea. Now is the time to add your sweetener while it’s still warm, the smaller the sugar granules, the easier it will dissolve.

3. Now for the ice and lot’s of it! Fill your glass 3/4 full with ice and pour the herbal tea over it, stir 10-15 times, until the ice has melted.

4. Add a garnish such as lemon or a sprig of mint, or simply drink it as it is. However you like it! And there you have it, perfect ice tea every time.

Tips:

  • Pour leftover herbal tea in an ice cube tray for next time, so the ice doesn’t water down your drink.

  • Use loose herbal tea if possible, as it has so much more flavour than sachets.  Here we used ‘Immune Boost’ tea.

  • For mocktail vibes, smash some berries, coat the rim of a cocktail glass with sugar, fill the glass with ice and berries, and pour over your ice tea and enjoy!

  • Double the recipe if you would like to have more ice tea on hand, it lasts 3 days in the fridge.
